Son of John Jones and Susannah Wagner Jones. Born in Cumberland (now Perry) County Pennsylvania in 1804. Came to Ohio with his family in 1821. Married to Harriet Drake. Children: Cornelius, Mary, Clarinda, Judith, Diego, Clement, and Lousa (or Louisa).

Isaac Jones drowned while trying to cross the Sandusky River: "Major Isaac Jones, drown in Sandusky River, 2/11/1851 according to the Daily Sanduskian newspaper..." According to the story, Jones and a companion were trying to cross the river on fallen logs when the two slipped. This was published in Marion Eagle, one of the newspapers serving Marion at that time.
