Peder O. Barsness, 70, Trout Lake Township, rural Bovey, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth.
He was born Jan. 14, 1930, in Red Lake County near Oklee to Peder and Albina (Plante) Barsness. He served in the U.S. Army as a master sergeant in the Korean War for two years and then came to the Grand Rapids area where he worked as a truck driver for the Cleveland-Cliffs Mining Company and later Troumbley Brothers Construction. He was the owner and operator of the Barsness Water and Sewer Company which he operated until his death. He married Dorothy "Peggy" Letourneau Nov. 14, 1953, in Grand Rapids. He was a member of the Local 49ers, Operating Engineers.
He is survived by a daughter, Joyce Schultz, Grand Rapids; a son, Peder, Trout Lake Township; two brothers, Lloyd and Willard, both of Trout Lake Township; special friends, Donna Christiansen; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Peggy, in 1987; a sister, Norma Baron; and a brother, Earl.
Funeral: Thursday, Dec. 28, at 1 p.m. at Community Presbyterian Church, Grand Rapids, with the Rev. Becky Sherwood officiating. Visitation is Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Rowe Funeral Home.
Burial: Trout Lake Cemetery, Trout Lake Township.
