Loren E Tillett, Sr, 68, died in a Norfolk hospital on Frday at 1:45pm after a long illness. He was a native of Wanchese, NC and had lived in NOrfolk for 38 years. He was a retired lighthouse keeper for the U.S. Coast Guard.
He was son of Timothy and Calcedonia Daniels Tillett and the husband of Esmeralda (Midgett) Tillett.
He was a member of the United Pentecostal Holiness Church Bethel Temple.
In addition to his wife, surviving are six daughters, Velma Smith, Corrinne Forehand, Esmeralda Talley and Leona Johnston all of Norfolk, Anna Mae Hickman of Deep Creek; Merle Carroll of Great Lakes, IL; two sons, Loren E Tillet, Jr of Norfolk and Sgt. E A Tillett of Fort Dix, NJ; five sisters, Grace Daniels of St. Augustine, FL, Mary Meekins of Elizabeth City, NC, Etta Daniels of Wanchese, NC, Rena Midgett and Helen Stokley, both of Norfolk; three brothers, Earl Tillet and Royden Tillett, both of Wanchese, NC and Alfred Tillett of Maryland; 10 nieces and nephews.
The body was taken to the Derry-Twiford Funeral Home and will be taken to the United Pentecostal Holiness Church Bethel Temple for funeral services on Sunday at 3pm. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park in Bayside.
