Funeral services for Sharon W. Jones will be held Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 10:00 AM at the Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Okemah. Interment will follow at the Welty Cemetery.
Sharon W. (Deaton) Jones was born December 30, 1943 in Okemah, Oklahoma to George W. Deaton and Dewel (Fox) Deaton. She ended her journey Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at her home in Mason at the age of 65.
Sharon was raised in the Mason area and graduated from Mason High School. She and Dwight Jones were married December 30, 1968 in Las Vegas, Nevada. In recent years she returned to retire after more than 25 years of service at Southwestern Bell in Oklahoma City. Sharon was instrumental in founding the Woody Guthrie Coalition and remained dedicated to the annual Woody Guthrie Folk Festival. Too soon after retiring, Sharon was diagnosed with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA), a rare and debilitating neurodegenerative disease.
She is preceded in death by her parents and four siblings.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 40 years, Dwight "Dee" Jones of Mason, one daughter, Kimberley Jones Ransford and husband Phillip of Del City, Oklahoma; one son, Kevin Jones of Lexington, Oklahoma; two brothers, Don Deaton of Okemah and Duane "Herb" Deaton of Edmond, Oklahoma; one sister, Maxine Geller and husband Gene of Mason; one beloved granddaughter, Kelsey Dayne Jones of Del City. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Serving as pallbearer will be nephews.
Services under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah and officiated by Rev. Richard Harper and assisted by Rev. Burton Perry.
