He was a very popular man in Independence, Missouri. He was City Collector until he died at age 90. His father was the Deputy Marshall James Peacock who was shot and shot and killed in 1873 Jim "Crow" Chiles. James's son Charles shot and killed Jim Crow's son Elijah that day at Independence Square. That was the last shootout in Independence until 1922 when there was a similar one. William's mother was Minerva McCarty Peacock.
