Funeral services for Chief James F. "Jim" Kron, 66, of Greenville, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at Georgetown Christian Church, 9420 State Road 64, Georgetown, with entombment with full honors at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany. He died Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at his residence.

He was retired from the New Albany Fire Department and was the current chief of the Georgetown Township Fire Protection District. He helped found the New Albany Explorer Post 50 and Georgetown Explorer Post 460, the New Albany Fire School in 1983, and was a recipient of the Fire Instructor of the Year for the State of Indiana. He was an annual sponsor of The Bird Show at the National Guard Amory in New Albany. He was a former owner of Kron Fire Extinguisher Company and a member of Georgetown Christian Church. He was born Oct. 11, 1942 in New Albany to the late Wayne F. and Monyth M. Faith Kron.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Sandy Denhart Kron; son, Tim Kron and wife, Annette, New Albany; daughters, Nikki Kron, Greenville, and Karen Miller and husband, Ralph, Jeffersonville; sister, Suzette Brewer and husband, James, New Albany; niece, Dawn Brewer; grandchildren, Mackenzie, Annie, and Joe Kron, Chris, Tiffany, R.J., and Jacob Miller.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his niece, Misty Brewer.
Visitation at Generations Funeral Home, New Albany, will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, and from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Crusade for Children in care of the Georgetown Fire Department.
