Ida McKinley Clark was the daughter of William Levi Clark and Mary Elizabeth Lincoln Martin. Ida McKinley Clark is the namesake of First Lady of the United States, Ida Saxton-McKinley. President William McKinley (1897-1901)was previously a Union officer and was the last United States president to have served in the Civil War.

Ida McKinley Clark, like her sister, Mona Esther Clark, was a school teacher who taught in a one-room school house for many years. Neither sister married, in keeping with the requirement of the profession of school teaching at that time.
