Jackie Decker passed away at home on June 11th, 2009, after a long, courageous battle with breast cancer. Born July 16, 1945 in Los Angeles, she was the youngest of four children of Fred and Rose Bishop. Jackie was raised in Inglewood, graduating from Inglewood High. She was a loving wife to her husband of 31 years, Paul, and a devoted mother to their son, Scott. She is also survived by her brothers, Gerald, Darrow and Douglas. Jackie loved to travel and in 2005 enjoyed a European vacation that included five countries. Her passion was politics and serving her community. She served on several Torrance civic and state Democratic campaigns. Owner of Pony Square Barber Shop and Hair Salon in Redondo Beach for many years, she was a past president of the Redondo Beach Riviera Village Association. Jackie was honored as Redondo Beach's Young Woman of the Year in 1982 for outstanding contributions to her community. She also actively volunteered in her son's Cub Scout Pack and Boy Scout Troop. In 1984 Jackie changed careers, selling her very successful salon to become a successful South Bay Realtor. Founding mother of Seaside Homeowners Association in 1985, she rallied residents against junk front yards and view blockages and served on its Board ever since. She was a frequent speaker at City Council meetings. Most recently she served on the City of Torrance Environmental Quality and Energy Conservation Commission.
