Frank was 2nd of nine children born to Thomas Olds III and Lemira Sprague, most likely in Milford township, Ohio. His siblings: Edwin Kennedy, Sophronia, Dow Aldrich, Harriett, Jane, Curtis, Byron and Viola.

He grew up in the northwestern corner of Ohio where his father farmed. This is where he enlisted to fight in the Civil War, where he returned after the war and where he married. In the 1860 census, he is 19, living at home and his occupation is listed as a teacher.

On 30 Jul 1865 Frank married Viola T. Palmer, daughter of T.P. and Lucinda Palmer in Williams County, Ohio. For a time they lived in Hardin County, Ohio where Frank was a Methodist minister and their first two children were born. By 1873 they had moved to Lawrence, Kansas where they lived the rest of their lives. They had 5 children: Lillie, Alta, Lora, Frank Jr and Donald.

He was listed as a minister in the 1870, 1880 Fed. Census records, and in the 1885 Kansas State Census. In the 1900 Fed. Census, he was listed as a Dealer (in oil). The obituaries attached to this memorial give additional information about Frank’s later life. He was only 66 when he died.
