Perry was the son of Adam Butcher and Mary Ann Kelly.

Perry's great-grandparents on his mother's side were Alexander Kelly, Sr. and Nancy Robinson. Alexander, Sr. served as a private during the Revolutionary War in Captain Thomas Parramore's company of the 9th Virginia Regiment. [Lineage Book of the Charter Members of the DAR Vol. 152, #151691.]

Perry married Rhoda Jacobs on 14 Jan 1874 in Monroe County, Indiana.

Their marriage was not the first link between the Butcher/Alexander and Jacobs families. Perry's step-sister, Sarah Adaline Alexander, married Rhoda's brother, Andrew J. Jacobs, in 1869. Even more complicated, the second wife of another of Rhoda's brothers, Hazlett "Alfred" Jacobs, was Mary Elmira Payne. After Alfred died, she married Perry's step-brother, James Samuel Alexander.

Perry was a farmer, and he and Rhoda were the parents of 3 children.

At the time of his death due to valvular heart disease, Perry was 80 years, 9 months and 12 days old. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rhoda, who passed away in 1924.

Perry was buried on 30 Sep 1930.

Children: 2 daughters, 1 son.

Perry's half-brothers and half-sisters:
Mary Catherine Butcher Cox
William A. Butcher
Tillman Howard Butcher
Emma L. Butcher Vint Minton

Important note:

The death date for Perry's wife, Rhoda, is definitely incorrect on the stone.

Most records give Perry's date of birth as 16 Dec 1851 or Oct 1851. His death certificate says 09 Dec 1847. The stone says 16 Dec 1855, but this conflicts with ALL census records, obituary and family tree information. He could not have been born in 1851 or later since he was listed as being "6/12" on the census dated 23 Sep 1850.

Very extensive in-depth research indicates the following birth dates are most likely to be correct for Perry and his siblings:

22 Sep 1847 - Amanda
16 Dec 1849 - Perry
30 Jul 1851 - Nancy
08 Feb 1853 - Matthew
