Visitation for Charline B. Newman, 80, of Kankakee, will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Lax Mortuary, Kankakee, and from 10 a.m. Saturday at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, until the 11 a.m. services. The Rev. C. Ramont Morris will officiate.

Burial will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood. She died Thursday (March 19, 2009) at Riverside Medical Center.

Mrs. Newman was employed by Manteno State Hospital as a nurse's technician and retired from Tinley Park Health Center. She was a practicing licensed cosmetologist.

She was born July 7, 1928, in Chicago, the daughter of Charles and Gertrude Mary Young Baggett.
She is survived by her husband, Rufus Lorenzo Newman.

She was a member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a nurse's aide in KCUUNA, was in the Mission Ministry and was a deaconess. She was a member of several organizations, including Alpha Tau Chapter of Alpha Chi Pi Sorority, Dukes and Duchess Organization, Eastern Star and was past president of AFSCME Illinois Retirees Chapter 31. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and fishing.
