In 1849 James McPherren was united in marriage to Mrs. Sarah McPherren Fleharty. This was a second marriage for both of them. They were cousins. Of the seven children born from this union six are still living. They are George N. McPherren of Lincoln Township, John H. of Iveyville, Edmund H., who makes his home with a sister near Cromwell, Mrs. Gilbert Hicks, Mrs. Fannie M. Lincoln of Logan County, Kansas, and Mrs. W. S. Lyons of this city. Mr. McPherren came to Adams County in 1867, being one of the pioneers of the county. He settled on a farm five miles north of Corning, where he lived until all his children reached maturity, in December, 1888, death took from him his devoted wife and helpmate
