Dorothy Marie (Zurn) was born August 7, 1910, in the township of Callaway, in the county of Becker, in the State of Minnesota to father, Nicholas Zurn and mother, Helena Magdalene Guszregen Zurn. Dorothy Marie was the fourth of eight children. She had sisters, Monica, Margaret, Theresa and Esther and brothers, Ambrose, Elmer and Henry.

Dorothy married Lawrence Joseph Kugler in Fergus Falls, Minnesota on September 6, 1928, and they parented seven children, Dorothy Catherine Spry of Cashmere, Washington, Evanell Sarah Janousek of Rapid City, South Dakota, Valarius Elmer Kugler of Mt. Victoria, Maryland, Ernee Marie McArthur of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Elaine Helena Mikkelsen Warhol of Mesa, Arizona, August Nicholas Kugler of Walnut Creek, California, and Valerie Mary Fox of Port Angeles, Washington.

Mrs. Kugler left to the world 29 grandchildren, and a bumper crop of great-grandchildren.

Dorothy and Lawrence Kugler moved from Chelan, Washington to Parkhill Street in Cashmere, Washington in 1953.

Lawrence made his profession in automobile service, and Dorothy worked in fruit processing for thirty plus years in Cashmere, Wenatchee, and Peshastin. Dorothy retired in 1985, to there Riverside home on Pine Flats. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, who passed on the eve of All Saints Day, October 31, 1987, Dorothy later lived for a time in Walnut Creek, California, where her son, August, lives before returning to her hometown of Cashmere for the remainder of her life.

Prosperity to Dorothy throughout her life was a healthy family, good work, good food, good harvest, and good shopping. She loved life, found strength in faith, valued friends, and nurtured family. She showed, by her example, indomitable courage, unfailing will, and a persistent faith. For these virtues she was known, loved by many, and will be remembered.

Dorothy passed from this life on July 13, 2004. A rosary will be held for her at Braun's Funeral Home in Cashmere at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 19, 2004, and her funeral will be Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at 1:00 p.m. at the Catholic Church in Leavenworth. All of her children will be present for this celebration of her life. Braun Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
