Corporal Co D 87th PA

Andrew Jackson Almany was born November 20, 1839, the son of James & Elizabeth (Rebecca Ann) Hetrick Almony and the husband of Rebecca Englishberry Almany, whom he married June 4, 1865 in York. In 1860, was a laborer living in Shrewsbury, York County, and stood 5' 6" tall and had dark hair and gray eyes. He died October 16, 1926.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Shrewsbury August 31, 1861, with Co. D, 87th Pa Inf, and was promoted to corporal, date unknown. Honorably discharged October 13, 1864. His last name on the rolls was spelled "Almony."

[I have my doubts about that "Rebecca Ann" for his mother. The death certificate is clear her name was Elizabeth Hetrick.]

Children: Anna Elizabeth (b. 09/04/66 - married Finley A. Gray), Hattie Luella (b. 09/04/68), Katie Rebecca (b. 03/09/72), Jennie May (b. 01/10/79 - married George Snellinger), and Walter A. (b. 08/11/82)

He died from a "diseased prostate - uremic infection."Corporal, Company D, 87th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers, 19 Sept 1861 to 13 October 1864
