Mary Margaret Carr Ransom, 83, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 18, 2009.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 26, 2009, at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home at 2620 S. Congress in Austin, Texas.

Funeral services are set for 3 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel with a supper reception immediately following the service. A graveside service is set for 7 p.m. at the Upper Cedar Creek Cemetery.

Mary Margaret was a native Texan, born in Floresville on August 3, 1925, to Samuel Brown Carr and Mary Ida Wallace Carr. She was the fourth of five children and cherished her childhood.

She loved running free all over town, attending Sunday School at the Floresville Methodist Church, and participating at Floresville High School where she played clarinet in the band, served as class president all four years, played volleyball and baseball, and wrote humor for the school paper.

Mary Margaret graduated with a Bachelor's in Business Administration from The University of Texas at Austin in 1945 and went to work in the Airline Passenger Services Department of Eastern Airlines in Houston. She soon met a tall, handsome engineer named Elliott Ransom. They fell in love and married in August of 1948, and made their home in Houston with their five children for the first 30 years of their marriage.

Mary Margaret and Elliott "retired" to their Cedar Creek cattle ranch for the second half of their marriage, where they became active members of Cedar Creek Methodist Church and the Bastrop County community.

Mary Margaret's love of adventure, deep faith, sense of humor, and ever-cheerful disposition were the foundation of her marriage and nurturance of her five children, nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

She wrote the job description for mother and home manager, and at the same time, she was Elliott's primary support, grounding rod, executive wife, and financial manager. Mary Margaret and Elliott enjoyed a little more than 60 years of marriage.

They worked hard, danced well, and traveled far. Their dedication and generosity to others is legend.

Mary Margaret Carr Ransom will be remembered for her deep abiding faith in God, determination and strength of character, which were balanced beautifully by her warm and sweet personality.
