James was born April 19, 1927, in Pocatello, to Viola and George C. Clawson of Pocatello Creek Road. He was a graduate of Pocatello High School class of 1945. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and had served a mission in Atlanta, GA, where he was highly recognized as a member of the Centennial Male Quartet. A veteran of World War II, he served a year in Saipan and Guam.
James was one of the first managers of the radio station KEYY when it opened in Pocatello. He owned and operated radio stations in Pocatello, Rexburg, Phoenix, AZ, in California and later in Richfield, UT, where he reared his children. Also he enjoyed a career in photography, as well as working as a master picture framer and designer at McCord AFB.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Brower Clawson, Puyallup; his mother, Pocatello; three sons and two daughters, Jennifer Farnes, Tacoma, WA, Roger Clawson, Argentina, Richard Clawson, Salt Lake City, UT, Timothy Clawson, Orem, UT, Michelle Gould, Maple Valley, WA; 20 grandchildren; three brothers and one sister, John A. Clawson, Salt Lake City, UT, Gary Dean Clawson, Salt Lake City, UT, Jeddy Clawson, Bellevue, WA and Julienne Johnson, Blackfoot. He was preceded in death by his father, one sister, Jeanene Clawson, and one grandson, Logan Farnes, and all his grandparents.
Funeral and burial were at Ppuyallup, WA, on May 14, where James was the bishop of South Hill Ward. Burial was in the New Tacoma Cemetery near his grandson, Logan." Obituary
