He died from pneumonia at a Regimental Hospital in Alexandria, Virginia, and is buried at the Alexandria National Cemetery, Grave Number 768. His widow, Hannah, lived on a farm near Ann Arbor, Michigan where she kept house for Eli Annis, son of Benjamin Annis Jr., a nephew.
