ELDERTON - Mrs. Cora Catherine Bierer Calhoun, 77, died yesterday (April 3, 1962) at 3:40 p.m. of complications of arthritis. She had been ill about 12 years. Mrs. Calhoun died in the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Silvis.
Born May 15, 1884 in Gastown, Plumcreek Township, Armstrong County, she was a daughter of George A. and Elizabeth Rearick Bierer, and was the wife of B. Melvin Calhoun, who preceded her in death in January of 1960.
Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Lawrence (Leila) Silvis; two son's Samuel D. Calhoun of Kittanning and Beryl M. Calhoun of Mercer; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. William (Matilda) Smail of Elderton.
The Calhouns had lived in Latrobe and in Gastown, and Mrs. Calhoun was a resident of Elderton for 17 years.
Friends are being received in Clark funeral home from 7 to 9 today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 tomorrow. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday with Harry Slaugenhaupt of Vandergrift officiating. Burial will be in Elderton cemetery.
