Lois Eleanor Marshall Porter was born 12 May 1920 in Streepyville, Appanoose county, Iowa, the daughter of Loyd and Marcia Conner Marshall. Her father often worked in the coal mines, mostly in the Mystic area. The family did live in Afton in the early 30's when Loyd and Marcia ran a cafe. Lois graduated from Mystic High School in 1937. She was married to Joe Clell Porter 14 Feb 1939. Their son Tommy was severely disabled and was eventually admitted to the state institution at Glenwood, Iowa.
Lois completed a one year secretarial program at Ellsworth Jr College, Iowa Falls, Iowa in 1961 and that fall began a career at Whitesell Law Firm, Iowa Falls. She received certification as a Professional Legal Secretary and Para Legal.
Lois and Joe took to the road in the summer of 1989 and spent their winters in Arizona. They were flea and antique market vendors and would travel to Wisconsin to visit their daughter Jo
during the summer. Along the route they would attend auctions to purchase inventory and set up at various markets, selling merchandise.
Lois died 11 Feb 1997 in Yuma, Az. A memorial service was held at the First Christian Church, Mystic. Her cremains were interred at Highland Cemetery, Mystic, Iowa.
