Bessie Pearl Bice was born on 23 February 1893 in North Zulch, Texas, to Lafayette Bice Jr and Lillian Angeline Ercanbrack. Bessie married Arthur Lee Free, 19 November 1909, when she was sixteen years old, in Zack, Texas; two of her sisters married his brothers. Arthur and Bessie's children were Etta Ray, Raymond, Velma Lee, Claude Wallace, Eula Pearl, Elsie Bernice, Catherine Gussie, Ella Louvicia, Janie Ruth, Inda Eva, Ethel Marie, and Arthur Marsh Free. Four of their children died as toddlers. Bessie Bice Free died, 15 October 1976, aged 83, in Waco, Texas, and was buried with her husband at College Station Cemetery in College Station, Texas.
