Katherine Filer, 95, Waco grocery owner

Katherine (Katie) Filer of Waco, a homemaker, died Tuesday at her daughter's residence. She was 95.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Louis Catholic Church, the Rev. Msgr. Mark Deering and Rev. Msgr. Ed Rabroker officiating. Burial will be at St. Martin's Cemetery in Tours.

Mrs. Filer was born March 3, 1900 in McLennan County near Leroy. She married Albert Julius Filer on Jan. 7, 1924, in Tours; he died on March 15, 1977. She and her husband owned and operated a grocery store in Leroy for 16 years until 1946 and later owned and operated a grocery store in Waco from 1948 to 1952. She was a homemaker and was also a babysitter for many Waco families. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church before moving her membership to St. Louis Catholic Church in 1978.

Survivors include a daughter, Arlline Holub of Waco; a sister, Rosie Berger of Waco; four grandchildren and eight great-grantchildren.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice, Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center, 3000 Herring Ave., Waco 76708.

A rosary will be recited today at 6:30 p.m. at the Wilkirson-Hatch Funeral Home Chapel in Waco.
