Edwin Martin served in Co.G,24th Michigan Infantry of "The Iron Brigade" during the Civil War.He was born in December 1845 in Michigan, son of Joseph Martin and Jane Moore. On 23 August 1850, Edwin lived in Sumpter, Wayne County, Michigan with his parents and siblings Charly, William, Mary, John, Henry, and George. He had attended school in the last year. On 16 June 1860, Edwin lived with his father and brother Henry in Sumpter.

Edwin was living in Sumpter when he enlisted as a Corporal in Company G of the 24th Michigan Infantry on 8 July 1862. He was mustered out on 30 June 1865 at Detroit, Michigan.

On 13 July 1870, Edwin was probably living with the Orren and Margaret Smith family in Huron, Wayne County, Michigan, working as a sawyer. He has not been located on the 1880 census.

Edwin was married on 19 March 1882 at Waltz, Wayne County to Emer Jane Poet. Elder L. J. Frink conducted the ceremony, which was witnessed by William Cochran and C. E. Romine. Emerjane was born in September 1857 in MichEdwin and Emmer Jane (Poet) Martin were the parents of three children:

i. ALVIN THOMAS MARTIN was born on 6September 1889 in Traverse City.
ii. JOSEPH E. MARTIN was born on 16 June 1892 in Traverse City.
iii. ORLETTA MARTIN was born on 2 April 1896 in Traverse City.




In 1890, Edwin lived in Traverse City.

On 6 June 1900, the couple and their children Alvin and Orletta at 232 E. 9th Street in Traverse City. He was working as a day laborer.

On 21 April 1910, Edwin and Emer lived at 232 E. 9th Street with their children Alvin and Orletta. Edwin worked as a street cleaner and his son was a plumber.

On 14 January 1920, the couple and their children Alvin and Orletta lived at 232 E. 9th Street in Traverse City. He was no longer working. His son was an express messenger and Orletta was a school teacher.

Edwin died on 13 August 1933 in Grand Traverse County.

Emer Jane died on 31 May 1934 in Grand Traverse County.

Edwin and Emer Jane were buried in Oakwood Cemetery.
