James Murray was the son of Charles (Ireland) and Elizabeth May Sullinger (Indiana) Murray. The family was living in Yamhill County, OR in the 1850 and 1860 census.
He married Emily Jane Thornton on Nov 11 1866 in Yamhill Co, OR. They had the following children: William (died in infancy), Henry, Martha, Frank, Charles, Mathilda and Lenora.

"Local News" James Murray, one of the pioneer residents of the Glenwood section, died on April 5th at the age of 79 years and three months. He was born in Louisa County, Iowa, January 5, 1846. He crossed the plains in 1852, and was married to Jane Thornton November 11, 1866. To this union were born seven children, of which six are still living. He came to Klickitat county 45 years ago, where he has since resided.
