Notes on Bill Wolf

2001 Interview with Bill Wolf - Bill farmed all of his life and is now retired. An interesting hobby he had was breeding an unusual corn which had each kernel enclosed in a husk. He crossed this corn with Indian corn and eventually produced a corn which not only had each kernel enclosed in a husk but was red in color in both the kernels and the stalk and leaves.

Early in his life Bill got an Appendicitis attack. His Mother was working in the kitchen when he told her of his pain. She immediately went into the field to get his Father. The doctor was called. He had an appendix operation right there in the home on the kitchen table because of the seriousness of the illness.

I stopped by Bill Wolf's home in rural Lostant, Illinois. He was happy to have company and we talked about old times. He told me he used to raise Hamshire work horses. He talked about cutting down weeds in the farm field with a big knife (I forgot the name of the knife that he mentioned). When I asked about his sister, Mildred, he said that she had died a while ago. (It was Apr of 2009) He is in very good shape for almost 104 years old. I hope to visit him with his first cousin, Catherine Wolf, for his birthday in March 2010 about a month from now. C. Y. - 2010
