Floyd was born to Jessie Bloomfield "Bloom" Adams and Nottie Samantha Benson Adams. Unfortunately he really never knew or remembered his mother since she died in Nov 1922 when he was very young. He had an older sister who stayed with his father however he was sent to Hickory, North Carolina where he lived with his grandfather and grandmother.

He married Dorothy Belle Thurman Adams and they had four children.

He went into the Army during World War II and was stationed in Macon, Georgia. Though it was wartime, he never was sent overseas.

He and Dot lived in Altavista, Virginia when they were first married. They moved to Victoria, Virginia in 1950 when he got a job at the Victoria Supply Company.

Floyd was a cabinet maker and made many items outside of his job. He made cabinets, dog houses, tool boxes and chairs which he often sold. He also played the guitar. But since he never had any lessons he played by ear.

In 1960, they moved to Blackstone, Virginia. Both Floyd and Dot worked at Velvet Textile Company until he retired.

He was residing in Blackstone at his death, which was about two years after he lost his wife.

He was found in the back alley on the morning of September 14, 2001. He had a stroke and never recovered. The police officer was doing his morning rounds. His precious little dog was laying beside him. She was faithful and would not leave him.
