VIROQUA/VIOLA, Wis. - Marie A. Rynes, 75, of Viroqua and formerly of the Viola area died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at the Vernon Manor in Viroqua. She was born in Ontario, Wis., on Aug. 14, 1926, to Orvis and Garnett (Palen) Collins. She graduated from Ontario High School in 1944. Marie was united in marriage to Floyd Rynes on June 3, 1947, at the Mt. Tabor Catholic Church. They farmed in the Johnny Cake, White City and Viola areas of Vernon County. Floyd died on Jan. 18, 2000. Marie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Viroqua, as well as the Homemaker's, her ceramic club and the Vernon Voices at Vernon Manor. Marie loved to care for her children and grandchildren. She was an avid gardener, embroiderer and loved ceramics. She was the best cook and was famous for her homemade chicken and noodles.
She is survived by her nine children, Monica (Robert) Parr of Janesville, Wis., Patricia Larson of Soldiers Grove, Wis., Daniel Rynes of Edgerton, Wis., Mike (Pam) Rynes of Viola, Diane (Bob) Reuter of Loves Park, Ill., Tom (Karen) Rynes of Janesville, Raymond (Lori) Rynes of Viola, Nancy (Jon) Nelson of Muscoda, Wis., David (Tracey) Rynes of Ontario; a foster son, Henry Hofer of Viroqua; 27 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; many stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; two brothers, Pat (Dee) Collins of Sarasota, Fla., and Jack (Ruthie) Collins of Milwaukee; two sisters, Bunnie (John) Schallhorn of Wisconsin Dells, Wis., and Bonnie (Bill) McPhereson of New Mexico; one sister-in-law, Bessie Adams of Plymouth; one brother-in-law, Jim (Bernadette) Rynes of Ontario; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Edward, on Aug. 5, 1970, her parents and three great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Viroqua. Fathers Michael Gorman and Steven Kachel will officiate, with burial in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Mt. Tabor. Visitation will be held at the Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua, on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will also be at the church on Tuesday after 9:30 a.m. Memorials may be given to Vernon Manor Activity Fund or Vernon Memorial Hospital Dialysis Fund.
