Gladys M. Larson, 92, Fargo, ND, formerly of Buffalo, ND, died on Thursday, August 13, 2009 in Pearl's Place at Edgewood Vista, Fargo.

Gladys May Hogen was born March 12, 1917 in Minneapolis, MN. She moved with her parents, Orin and Bertha (Foss) Hogen, and her brother Curtiss from Kensett, IA to Buffalo, ND in 1928. She graduated from Buffalo High School in 1934. After graduation she attended Valley City Teacher's College and earned her Standard degree in 1936. Following her teaching degree she taught country schools in the Page, ND area for two years, and in the Wheatland area for one year.

On June 7, 1939 Gladys married Floyd Everett Larson son of Albert and Ella (Kringler) Larson on her parents' farm. Together she and Floyd raised eight sons and one daughter: Orvin (Mallory), Lemon Grove, CA, Bennett (Pat), Oak Ridge, TN, Stanley (Kathy), Williston, ND, Vincent (Grace), Buffalo, ND, Douglas (Barbara), Milaca, MN, David (Lonnie), Buffalo, ND, Richard (Carol), Brooklyn Park, MN, Joyce (Stan) Spitzer, Streeter, ND, Roger (Mary), St. Paul, MN.

While Gladys gave up classroom teaching, she never gave up teaching her family and others about life with interesting articles she found in the news and in magazines. Her ever-present emphasis on reading, school, and learning was a constant while she raised her family. Gladys enjoyed being a farm wife and all that went with it including milking cows and doing other livestock chores during times of busy field work. She loved mending, canning, cooking, sewing quilts, washing and hanging out clothes, and especially taking meals out to the field for the men. She did many of these things until she was in her late 80's.

Her work on the history book for the Buffalo Centennial, Cass County, Buffalo Lutheran Church, Foss family, and the Larson – Kringler family, showed her love for history and retaining our heritage. She volunteered at Bonanzaville and was very involved in the birth of the Buffalo Historical Society.

Gladys loved her home and was fortunate enough to live there from March of 1940 until September 2008 when she moved to Edgewood Vista in Fargo where she received wonderful care and her wit was enjoyed by everyone. Her most enjoyable times were when her children were home and visiting around the kitchen table. Her playroom porch was always a favorite with her 22 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.

She was a confirmed member of the Buffalo Lutheran Church, active in WELCA and bible study, and served on many committees' and attended numerous conventions for the church.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd, her parents, Orin and Bertha, and her brother, Curtiss.
