Widow Emeline Dieter was awarded a pension following Private Dieter's death, application No. 83274, Cert. No. 92209, Ntl. Archives. Married 1st bef. August 30, 1853 to Lydia Ann who died aft. Oct. 19, 1857. Henry married 2nd to Emeline Dewey, June 10, 1858 at Weyauwega, Waupaca, Wisconsin, by George W. Penney, Justice of Peace. Henry was discharged by reason of disability occasioned by lung fever contracted during the war. His pension file gives his height as 6 ft., fair complexion, blue eyes and light hair.
Children of Henry and Lydia Ann: Sarah Emeline, Ida Geneva & Ada Blanche (twins) b. May 29, 1862 Wisc.
Emeline received a pension from 1867 to 1881 at $8.00 per mo. and $2.00 per for each of the 3 daughters until 16 years of age. Emeline Dieter's address in Feb. 1879 was Oshkosh, Winnebago Co., Wis. She lost her Certificate in 1881, reason not clear. She could not be located in the 1880 census so perhaps she married again after Henry's death. According to the Dieter genealogy, there were several affidavits in widow Emeline's Pension File, Cert. No. 92209.
