Mrs. Victoria Belle Porterfield, 82, of Vandalia, died enroute to Audrain Medical Center Saturday after suffering an apparent heart attack. Mrs. Porterfield had been ill for several months. She was born in Marysville, Marion County, Iowa on March 15,1889, daughter of Vas Pasion and Iona Estell Burk. She attended schools in Iowa. On August 2, 1909, she was married to Edwin S. Porterfield in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Mr. Porterfield died June 18, 1952.
Mrs. Porterfield had lived in Vandalia since 1940. She and her husband were in the restaurant business in the city and were well-known for their kiddie rides at picnics and ice cream socials in the surrounding areas. She was a member of the Methodist Church and the Rebekah Lodge.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Gilbert (Thelma) Woodson; four brothers: Hubert Burk and Harold Burk of Iowa; Carl and Sylvester Burk of Wyoming; a sister, Mrs. Sabra Rector of Minburn, Iowa; three grandchildren; a great grandchild; and two step-grandchildren, Ronald Woodson of Shipman, Illinois; and Mrs. Edward Whittleman of Jerseyville, Illinois. Three brothers, three sisters, and two sons preceded her in death.
Funeral services were to be held at 2:00 p.m. today at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Powell officiating. Burial will be at the Vandalia Cemetery. Waters Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
