Kathryn L. "Katie" Baker, age 84, of Eckert Road, Lexington, passed away Monday morning, June 29, 2009 in Morrow County Hospital Extended Care following a long illness.
She was born Kathryn Luella Ness, though everyone called her Katie, on August 3, 1924 in Crawford County. The Daughter of Grant and Luella E. (Foose) Ness, she attended Galion Local School.
On February 11, 1945 she married Robert S. Baker, with whom she celebrated 64 years of marriage.
Katie worked 20 years for the Lexington School District as a bus driver, and shuttled generations of children on her route. She was only the second female hired to drive for the district.
She was a member of the Robert L. Castor VFW Post 5101 Auxiliary, and a member of Pebble Creek golf Club.
An avid golfer, Katie was characteristically a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, always ready with a smile and hug for everyone. Katie was always very proud of her family.
She is survived by four children and their spouses, Kenneth Baker of Des Moines, Iowa, Wanda and Bill Swick of Bucyrus, John H. and Diane Baker of Columbus, Kay Carter Finn and Robert Finn of Olathe, Kansas; a daughter-in-law, Charlotte Baker of Lexington; sixteen grandchildren and their spouses, Robert L. and Polly Baker, Todd and Julie Baker, Brett Baker, Bart and Shelia Baker, Terrie Payne, Gerri and Gorge Payne, Scott and Shari Baker, James Baker, Leslie and Jason Saxton, Jason and Sue Baker, Jeremy and Jasmin Baker, Timothy Baker, Jennifer Lahm, Wendy Lahm, John and Tiffany Carter, and Buddy Carter; 19 great grandchildren; six siblings and their spouses, Annabell Roush of Galion, Kennetha Reed of Fredericktown, Dorothy Hass of Florida, Henry and Ruth Ness of Mansfield, Bill and Pat Ness of Florida, and Emerald Ness of Oklahoma; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
In addition to her parents; Katie was preceded in death by her husband, Robert S. Baker on March 23, 2009; her son, Thomas R. Baker on February 3, 2009; and a sister, Jessie Pierce.
