Maxine J. Bottoms (Micki), 81, died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005, at Northeast Florida Community Hospice. Born in Battle Creek, Mich., she attended Michigan State, Class of 1948. In the early 1950s, she worked in the Michigan House of Representatives in Lansing, Mich.

After a move to Illinois in the 1960s, she worked for 30 years in various aspects of law as a legal secretary and paralegal, her expertise being in intellectual property, working as legal secretary to the chairman of Molex Inc. and as legal secretary/paralegal at National Can Corporation.

She became interested in hospital volunteer work many years ago and was a charter member of the Central DuPage Hospital Auxiliary in Winfield, Ill. Since retiring to St. Augustine in 1989, she was a Flagler Hospital volunteer for nine years, working in outpatient surgery, where she served two years as chairman.

Always active and interested in people, she also participated, as she was able to, in "Project Swing," the beautiful children's park built primarily by St. Augustine resident volunteers.

Micki is survived by her beloved friend and faithful companion of many years, Joseph Kruljac ; three fiercely loved children: G. Daniel and wife, Sandra, of Batavia, Ill.; Jeffrey T. Bottoms, St. Augustine; Susan G. Bottoms of Plano, Ill.; and loved grandchildren: Natalie (Troy) White and their two children, Lucas and Ava; much-loved and admired granddaughter Beth (Brian) Lafferty; stepgrandchildren, Susanne White, Sharon Omara, Julie Hirschberger and Douglas Lindberg; seven step great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Friends are invited to meet from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, 2005, at Craig Funeral Home for a memorial gathering.
There will be a memorial Mass held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2005, in the St. Anastasia Catholic Church.

Flowers are gratefully accepted, or donations may be made to the American Heart Association, if so desired.
