Jay Emerson Beemer, 107, of Sterling, died Saturday, August 2, 1997 in Sterling.
Visitation and viewing will be Tuesday, August 5, 1997 at 2 p.m. at the Chaney-Walters Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August
6, 1997 at Chancy-Walters with the Rev. Gregory S. Fitch officiating. A Masonic graveside service will be conducted by the Masonic Lodge No. 54, A.F. & A.M.. Burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery.
Mr. Beemer was born November 10, 1889 in Holt Township, Taylor County,Iowa to Seeley J. and Mary A. (Cram) Beemer.
On October 8, 1913 he married Eula Ferne Hicks.
He remarried December 12, 1934 to Helen Elizabeth Bauer in Rockport, Missouri.
His work life varied. He farmed in Iowa for many years. He also worked as postmaster in Gravity, Iowa during the depression era. he also sold Buicks in Corning,
Iowa, followed by working for the National Refining Company in Omaha, Nebraska. He then became a sales representative for Frontier Refining Company and moved to Sterling in 1939. After retiring from Frontier he got bored and went to work for Foxhovens, Inc in the credit department.
Mr. Beemer is a veteran of World War I, and a member of he American Legion Post No. 20 since 1923. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 54, A.F. & A.M. . He became a mason in 1916 and was a proud member of his 80 year membership.
He is survived by his son James Beerner and wife Jody of Greeley; arid long friend and masonic brothers, Lawrence Ramey, and Bob and Charlotte Hill; seven grandchildren, seven great- grandchildren, and five great great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by both wives; one son, Harold and his wife Eva Auralee; and three brothers.
