Bruce Gillmore age 73, of Monticello, died unexpectedly Monday evening, June 29, 2009.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 Friday morning, July 3, 2009 at St. Matthews Lutheran with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery with Military Honors. Rev. Daryl Larson will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 3 until 8 Thursday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello. Surviving is his wife, Rose, 4 children, Vicki (Darrell Taylor) McElmeel, Monticello, Michelle (David) Hosch, Hopkinton, Chris (Marcy) Gillmore, Kurt (Tammy) Gillmore both of Monticello, 10 Grandchildren, 2 brothers, Keith (Carol) Gillmore, Monticello, M.G. "Evan" (Ronnie) Gillmore, Tucson, Ariz., and a sister-in-law, Roberta Teller, Phoenix, Ariz.. He was preceded in death by his Parents, a brother, Larry and an infant son, Marshall August Gillmore and his mother and father in law, August and Clara Lubs.

Bruce Allen Gillmore was born July 8, 1935 at Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was the son of Elbert Darrell and Wilma I. Votroubek, Gillmore. Bruce received his early education in the Viola, Mechanicsville and Marion schools. He graduated from the Monticello Community Schools with the class of 1955. Bruce started working at Cuckler Steel Span Buildings and worked as a tool and die maker in Mount Vernon in the evenings. Bruce started his commitment to the United States Army Reserve during this time also. In 1958 Bruce started working for H&W Motor Express where he was employed for the next 36 years. Bruce A. Gillmore and Rose Lubs were married November 14, 1959 at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Dubuque, Iowa. The couple made their home in Monticello where Bruce was the Pedal Driver & Terminal Manager for H&W. He later had his run in Maquoketa with H&W.

Bruce was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed in his faith. He was also a member of Teamsters Local 421 of Dubuque, Knights of Pythias, the International Harvester Club, and the Midwest Jalopy Racing Club. He enjoyed hydroplane boat, go-cart and stock car racing, being out in nature, hunting and fishing, and his Yorkies, Benny and Lizzie. He was also a collector of Precision Scale Models for many years.
