He was actually born KARL FRIEDRICH BRENNEISEN, on 07 May 1877, in Luzerne, Benton, Iowa, son of Edward and Dorothea (Meyer) Brenneisen, German immigrants. He was the third of their six children.

When he registered with the draft registration board in Waterloo, Iowa, on September 12, 1918, he gave his name as CHARLES FRED BRENEISEN. That document shows he was a pattern maker with Litchfield Manufacturing Company. His nearest relative was his wife, Etta S. Breneisen, and they were living in Waterloo. He was of medium height, medium build, had blue eyes and light hair. He also had no sight in his left eye.

In the Iowa Marriages, 1809-1992, found at FamilySearch.org, it shows CARL F BRENNEISEN wed ETTA S TURNER on 20 Jan 1904, at Clear Lake, Cerro Gordo, Iowa. Carl was 26 and Etta was 42. She had been previously married, as her folks were listed as Melzar Robbins and Aurelia Sprague. This record can be found in Bk 8 pg 205 cn 5046.

Carl and Etta had no children together.
