Hayward "Pete" Baker Jr., 57, of Terra Alta, died Friday July 28, 2006, in Reedsville, as a result of an automobile accident. He was born Dec. 22, 1948, in Turner Douglas, a son of Marjorie Davis Baker, of Newburg and the late Hayward C. Baker Sr. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Terra Alta. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a former member of the Terra Alta Moose Lodge. He was employed at Teets Oil Company and then Mettiki Coal Company. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Delora J. Baker; two sons, Christopher Lee Baker, of Reedsville and Ethan Hayward Baker, at home; three daughters, Melissa Elaine King, of Accident, Md., Alicia Marie Pingley, of Brandonville, and Deidra Colleen Baker, also at home; a brother, Steven Baker, of Reevesville; two sisters, Joyce and Janet Baker, both of Newburg; and five grandchildren.
In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Victoria Elaine Baker.
Burial will be in the Terra Alta Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by Preston County VFW Posts.
