Wife of Herbert Ottler CrosbyWALTERBORO — Madge Celeste Addison Crosby, 87, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, in Hendersonville.

She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert Ottler "Bing" Crosby.

Born in Charleston, S.C., the daughter of the late Mamie Rhode Addison and William Preston Addison Jr., she was almost 6 years old when her father died, leaving her mother expecting her fifth child. She learned from her mother the love of family, how to accept responsibility, to keep your word and independence. Madge grew up in the caring community of Cottageville, S.C., where loving family and friends took a hard-working widow and five children "under wing." She graduated from Cottageville High School and Perry Business School. After her marriage to Bing, they lived in Walterboro and Round O. SC, until moving to Hendersonville in 2002.

Being a good Christian, Mother was the major purpose of her life. Raising and caring for two boys and two girls was a loving responsibility and she treasured each of them. She was always active in their lives. She was also always available to help anyone in the community, young or old, family, friend or stranger. She has been the rock of her family. She was an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Walterboro serving in many activities and it was the core support in her life. She was a teacher and superintendent in the Children's Division for more than 20 years and active in the Beulah Glover Circle. Many of her other community activities in Walterboro involved being, a Girl Scout leader, Den Mother in Cub Scouts, active in the Campbell Ashley Garden Club for more than 30 years, member of the Homemakers Club of Round O and serving on committees of the Extension Homemakers Council. In all of these activities she made dear and treasured lifelong friends.

She was at home with her children while they were growing up but when they began attending college she worked outside the home. She retired from the South Carolina Dept. of Health and Environmental Control. In this position she was responsible for accounting and finances for Home Health services in 4 counties.

While in Hendersonville, she treasured having First United Methodist Church as her church home and was blessed with her many friends here, She also felt blessed by Lula Mae Briggs bible study at First Baptist Church.

She is now in the Peace and Joy of Heaven, but will be truly missed by her family; two daughters of Hendersonville, Celeste Elizabeth Crosby, who was her dear caregiver and Olivia Crosby Brissie "Libby" and her husband, Jim; two sons, Herbert Ottler Crosby Jr. (Butch) and wife, Cathy and Stanley Addison Crosby, of St. Matthews, S.C.; her brother, George Allen Addison and wife Terry of Round O, S.C.; four grandchildren, Kelda Brissie Bowers and husband Jerry, Jimmy Brissie and his wife, Rhonda, Gina Crosby Quinatoa and husband Patricio, and Herbert O.
