William Joseph Mallon 87, of Manhattan, died Tuesday at Wharton Manor where he had been a resident since November 1978.  He was born June 20, 1892 (grave marker says 1893), near Ogden and married Cora Belle Allen June 23, 1921, in Manhattan.  She preceded him in death May 1, 1979.

Mr. Mallon was a retired farmer and worked as an engineer for Central Kansas Power and Light for 15 years.  He was a veteran of World War 1, and a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1832, Pearce Keller American Legion Post 17, and a former member of the Golden Age group, all of Manhattan.

He is survived by two sons, Jim Mallon and Joe Mallon, both of Manhattan; two daughters, Mary Ann Goudy, of Glendale, Calif., and Dorothy J. Wesselman, of Woodstock, Ga.; 19 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Seven Dolors Catholic Church, with Father Carl Kramer and Father John A. Moeder officiating.  A rosary will be said Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Parkview Funeral Home.

A Fort Riley military detail will conduct military graveside services at Sunset Cemetery in Manhattan.  Funeral arrangements are being made at Parkview Funeral Home.
