Irene L. Stevenson, age 89, of Monmouth, Ill. passed away at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at her residence. Irene was born on July 28, 1919 in Monmouth and is the daughter of Stanley William and Pearl Miller Vance. Irene was raised in the Gerlaw and Monmouth area where she attended rural schools and Monmouth High School. She was married to Richard D. Stevenson on May 6, 1940 in Davenport, Iowa. He preceded her in death on December 5, 1990. Irene was a homemaker and was employed by the former Bowman Colwell Department Store in Monmouth and Bowman Switzer Shoe Store also formerly in Monmouth. She is a member of Countryside Bible Church. Irene enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughters Shera Fernald and Gary of Monmouth and Janet Crear of rural Biggsville, Illinois. Six Grandchildren survive Terry ( Larry) Dean, Kimberly (Brian) Robbins, and Jennifer (Jason) Robbins, all of Monmouth and Richard Gavin of Rogers, Minnesota, Brian Gavin of Temple, Texas, and James Talley of Tyler, Texas. There are sixteen great grandchildren also surviving. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, and three brothers.
Services: A private graveside service will be held at the cemetery in Gerlaw. A memorial fund is established for Countryside Bible Church. Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth is in charge of the arrangements.
