Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Zerkle, age 81, died Monday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Margaret Buss, in Dundas, from the effects of a fall a week previous.
Mrs. Zerkle had been visiting her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Leona Zerkle, in Preston Township, when she fell from a swing. The daughter in law testified at the coroner's inquest, held Monday, that "Mrs. Zerkle was sitting in a swing about 3pm, June 22. I took her a drink of water and stared to return to the house. I heard her say 'I am falling' but failed to reach her before she fell. We assisted her to the house and later to bed. She was brought to her home in Dundas, June 23, and was attended by Dr. G S Trotter to the time of her death. He said she had a broken hip and developed bronchial pneumonia, June 28 and expired June 29 at 12:50 pm."
The coroners jury composed of LL Curtis, Wm. P Zimmerly, John Bromm, Ernest Zerkle, Louis Zerkle and Elmore Buss, returned a verdict that "death was caused by a fractured left hip, accidentally received in a fall to ground".
Funeral services were held at the Buss home in Dundas, Wednesday afternoon.
Mrs. Zerkle was the widow of William Zerkle and is survived by 6 sons and 3 daughters. She also leaves 19 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
