Fred Albert Hatcher, onetime semiprofessional baseball player and a retired bookkeeper, died at 11:10 last night at St. Joseph Hospital. He suffered a stroke Monday night at his home on Leech Road, south of Memphis. He was 75.
Born near Mclemoresville, Tenn., Mr. Hatcher moved to Shelby County 20 years ago. As a young man he was well known as a baseball player in West Tennessee. Later he became a bookkeeper, working for the Peacock Hardware at Ridgley, Tenn., and for the Henderson-Baird wholesale hardware firm at Greenwood, Miss. He was a Methodist.
He leaves three daughters, Mrs. C.A. Loftiss, Mrs. J.C. Boyce and Mrs. J.J. O'Hearn, all of Memphis, two sons, M.G. Hatcher of Arcola, Miss., and A.W. Hatcher of Clarksdale, Miss., and a sister, Mrs. Inez Leach of Milan, Tenn.
