The family moved to Mount Carroll, Carroll County Illinois after the end of the Civil War. Anna's widowed father, Frederick Holmes, moved there, too, along with several of her siblings.
Anna's husband was a farmer and blacksmith there and headed up the Agricultural Board for several years.
