Noted Mining Engineer Dies At Denver Home
Carr W. Pritchett Succumbs After Short Illness

Carr W. Pritchett, 79, known in mining circles thruout two continents and with many friends in Routt county, passed away at his home, 2735 Federal Boulevard, Denver, on Tuesday, February 2. He suffered a stroke the week previously.

Mr. Pritchett was born at Fayette, Mo., and was educated at Glasgow, Mo. He studied mining engineering and came to Colorado in 1886 to study mining in Leadville, Blackhawk, Central City and other mining towns. In 1887 he came to Routt county, his particular object at that time being to inspect the Gilpin mine at the head of Elk river. Here he met Miss Lulie Crawford, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James H. Crawford, founders of Steamboat Springs. They were married here on October 18, 1892. Last October they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in their Denver home and were the recipient of presents and good wishes from scores of friends in all parts of the country.

Mr. Pritchett was long in the Coeur d'Alene district in Idaho, and in the employ of the Guggenheims and other large mining interests visited Alaska, Canada, Mexico and South America. More recently he has been consulting engineer for various large mining interests.

Funeral services are being held today at the family home in Denver. The body will be brought to Steamboat Springs, where graveside services will be held at 2 p. m. on Saturday.

Mr. Pritchett is survived by his wife and two daughters, Lulita and Margaret. Miss Lulita has written many short stories and a few years ago published a book, "The Shining Mountains," which was a record of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James H. Crawford, and their journey to and settlement of Steamboat Springs.

Mrs. Pritchett was teacher of the first school ever held in Routt county. She is a sister of Logan B. Crawford and John D. Crawford of Steamboat Springs.
