Earnest Leon Burkett, 70, of Cottondale died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, in Tuscaloosa.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at Heritage Chapel in Tuscaloosa with burial in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park.
He was a Korean War veteran and was retired from the VA and the Navy Seabees. He was a member of Cottondale Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rise' Burkett and one brother, Ellis Burkett.
He is survived by his wife, Fay Burkett of Cottondale; one daughter, Cindy Pounds and her husband, Jeff of Trussville; one son, Rex Burkett and his wife, Pam of Cottondale; four sisters, Aline Guthrie of Townley, Opal Amerson of Jasper, Mary Burkett of Gadsden and Martha Burkett of Carbon Hill; three brothers, Rev. H. L. Burkett and John D. Burkett, both of Carbon Hill and Edward O. Burkett of Bankston; three grandchildren, Ryan and Adam Pounds, of Trussville and Caley Burkett of Cottondale.
Pallbearers are James Geer, Jerry Vick, Jerry Adam, Dave Elmore, Doug Dailey and John Pierce.
Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Kimbrell, Charles Savage, Mike Jones, Leon Jones, Paul Deason, Earl Hodge, Bill Tidwell, S. H. Rushing Crusaders Sunday school class and Joy Sunday school class. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Tuscaloosa Christian School.
