Burl Hellums Hambrick 91 of Abilene passed away Wednesday July 08 2009.

Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery with Janice Six officiating under the direction of North's Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday at the Westminster Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-7:30 p.m. at North's Memorial Chapel 242 Orange Street.

Burl was born on September 22 1917 in Belton Texas to Charles C. and Ethel J. Hambrick.

At the age of eight he moved to Abilene.

He graduated from Abilene High School and received a certificate from McMurray College for business management under the G. I. Bill.

He married the love of his life Patricia Dugger in Webster Groves Missouri in 1943.

Burl spent his working days in sales and marketing. He retired in 1983 from Gooch Packing Company. He admired and respected Gooch Packing Co. very much.

He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps for five and a half years. He was a radio operator/gunner as a B-25 bomber crew member.

He was an ordained Deacon and Elder in the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. He was past president of the board of the Buffalo Gap Ministries and of the Abilene Food Bank. He was a long time member of the Cactus Lions Club where he was twice named Lion of The Year. He spent many hours doing volunteer work. Closet to his heart was Hendrick Day Surgery where he served for thirteen years.

He was preceded in death by his parents one brother Charles and two sisters Dorothy and Rosemary.

He is survived by his loving wife Patricia one son Phil Hambrick of Seguin Texas granddaughter Dee Ann Arterburn and husband Kevin and one sister Jewel White along with many nieces and nephews who he loved.

Burl spent many happy hours with his coffee group at Joe Allen's.

He loved his Lord his family and Abilene. He put his trust in Jesus Christ everyday.
