Mr. Starkey died Monday, Nov. 28, 1994, at Poder Valley Hospital, Fort Collins, Colo.
He was born April 7, 1933, in Mayetta, the son of Ira and Nellie E. Smith Starkey. He grew up in Mayetta, Holton and Topeka, where he graduated from Topeka High School. He served in the Army from 1953 to 1955.
Mr. Starkey returned to Topeka where he worked for John Deere, drove a cab and then worked for the state of Kansas. He moved to Lawrence in 1976 and worked for Star Signs of Lawrence and was in Fort Collins on the job when he died. He was a commercial truck driver.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lawrence.
He married Viola Root Hadl on Oct. 15, 1988, in Lawrence. She survives at the home.
Other survivors include two stepsons, Bill Hadl and Jim Hadl, both of Eudora; a daughter, Melody Starkey, Topeka; six stepdaughters, Marilyn Kurtz, Baldwin, Betty Miller, Lawrence, Nancy Higbie and Lorie Hadl, both of Wellsville, and Patty and Connie Hadl, both of Eudora; two brothers, Jim, Grants Pass, Ore., and Ira, Topeka; a sister, Nellie Kenyon, Calistoga, Calif.; 19 grandchildren and four great-granddaughters.

Inurnment for Wayne E. Starkey, 61, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Memorial Park Mausoleum in Lawrence.
