PEORIA - Marie Bertha Yehl passed away peacefully on her 101st birthday on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at her residence in Peoria surrounded by her family.

Marie was born April 14, 1920, in Peoria, the daughter of Joseph Sr. and Marie Goldmann Johnigk. She married John Yehl in Peoria on January 19, 1946, at St Boniface Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on July 12, 1988.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ellen (Gene) Taets of Crossville, TN, and Emily (Frank) Landers of Washington, IL; three sons, Paul (Theresa) of Chandler, AZ, Phil (Judy) of Peoria and Mark (Corinne) of Lexington, NC; 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Joseph Johnigk II; her sister, Betty Besserer; her daughter, Julianne DeVos; son-in-law, Terry Devos; brother-in-law, Erwin Besserer; sister-in-law, Cathy Johnigk; and grandson, Thomas Yehl.

Marie was a lifelong member of St. Boniface Church, now St .Ann Church, in Peoria. She was a member of Catholic Women's League, Seminary Aid Society of the Diocese of Peoria and Our Lady's Club. She was also a member of Neighborhood House for many years.

Marie worked as a bookkeeper and secretary for her father at the Peoria Planning Mill, as a bookkeeper at St. Boniface/St. Ann Church and in the corporate offices of Jumer's Hotel.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, April 17, 2021, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Peoria, with a one hour prior visitation. Fr. Jeremy Freehill will officiate and burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in West Peoria.

Family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the OSF Hospice team for their loving care and support for their mother in these trying times.
