ANDERSON — Floyd W. Johnson, 86, died July 9, 2009, at his residence, following an extended illness.

He was born June 10, 1923, in Gilman, Wisc., raised in Cornell, Wisc., lived in Milwaukee from 1947 to 1972, before moving to Anderson in 1972.

Floyd attended Milwaukee Institute of Technology, where he became an engineering technician for General Motors. He worked 37 years for GM, retiring in 1988.

He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Madison County Amateur Radio Club and Madison County Radio Controlled Model Airplane Club.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Betty (Vaughn) Johnson of Anderson, whom he married Dec. 4, 1948; three children, Jay Bradley (Kim) Johnson of Lake Orion, Mich., Robin Jeanette (Johnson) Worl of Chicago, Ill., and Timothy John (Lisa) Johnson of Indianapolis; his brother, Ronald Johnson of Adams, Wisc.; sisters, Dona Taipala of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Ruth Ann Sommer of Holcombe, Wisc.; four grandchildren, Jennifer Johnson, Sarah Johnson, Alexa Johnson and Lydia Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.

Floyd was preceded in death by a daughter, Roxanne Sherri Johnson, who died in 1955; his parents, Walter and Lorinda (Laabs) Johnson; brother, Leroy Johnson; and sisters, Arlene Johnson and Thelma Gulich.The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Gelfman and St. John's Hospice for their kind and loving care of Floyd.

Services will be held at noon Monday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service, 229 S. Rangeline Road, Anderson, officiated by Pastor Donna Madewell of First Presbyterian Church. Burial will take place at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery, where the VFW Post 266 Honor Guard and the National Guard Honor Guard will conduct military graveside rites.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the Monday service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Christian Center, St. John's Hospice or the Madison County Humane Society
