Merlin Andrew Platteter, 89, Stonebridge Health Campus, Bedford, IN., formerly of Brookfield, Wisconsin, died at 6:05 a.m. Monday.

He was born July 14, 1919, in Stetsonville, WI., the son of George and Amanda (Stahnke) Platteter. He married Erma Etten on May 27, 1946, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 19, 2004.

He was a machinist at Allis-Chalmers, West Allis, WI., retiring in 1979.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Bedford, was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the National Guard, 32nd Division Veterans Association of Milwaukee, WI.

Survivors include one son, Dale G. Platteter and wife Crystal of Bedford, Indiana; a daughter, Mary Platteter of Midlothian, VA.; six grandchildren, Brian Platteter of Seattle, WA., Amanda Whited and husband Matt of Chicago, Emily Platteter of Pewaukee, WI., David Platteter of West Lafayette, IN., Andrew Mulligan and Sarah Mulligan, both of Midlothian, VA.; and a brother, Kenneth Platteter of Texas.

His parents, wife, and four brothers preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Bedford, Indiana with Father Rick Eldred officiating. Entombment will be in Brookfield, Wisconsin.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul School Scholarship Fund.
