"Edward Eugene Eberth, 91, of Basehor, Kan., passed away Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007. He was born in Basehor on Feb. 28, 1916, the son of Edward G. and Dorthea Eberth.
Edward was a strongly religious man and was very active in his church where he taught Sunday School and held various offices.

In 1941, he volunteered for the Army and served as one of the last horseback cavalrymen. Later he served in the 87th Mountain Infantry as squad leader. He served in the European Theatre and his decorations and citations include European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Defense Service Medal and American Service Medal. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 9, 1945. After his military service he worked for 22 years at the U.S. Penitentiary in Leavenworth. After retiring from the U.S. Department of Corrections, he then worked 12 years for the Leavenworth County Co-op.

After returning home from World War II, he met and then married Theresa Politte on May 28, 1952. They spent the next 55 years raising their family on the farm that has been in his family for more than 100 years.

He is survived by his five grown children, Victoria Eberth and Charles Eberth, both of Basehor, Edward A. Eberth of Glendale, Ariz., Robert Eberth of Leavenworth and Beverly Rench of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by two brothers.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa; one daughter; one sister; and three brothers.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, 2007, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Seventh and Miami streets, in Leavenworth.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, at Christ Lutheran Church, 6700 N.W. 72nd St., Kansas City, MO 64151. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will follow in the Mount Muncie Cemetery, Lansing.

Memorial contributions may be given to Christ Lutheran Church in Platte Woods, Mo.
