Marvin Leonard Prochaska was born November 11, 1916, on a farm south of Simpson, KS, to John A. and Mary (Ziegler) Prochaska, Sr. and departed this life on Saturday, August 23, 1997 at the Mitchell County Hospital, Beloit, KS at the age of 80 years, with his wife at his side. He attended rural country grade school and graduated from Simpson High School in 1934. He took Normal training to become a teacher and attending Kansas Wesleyan University and Emporia State College enabled him to continue teaching school and music. He taught country school for several years and served on the Simpson School Board for many years. He also was very instrumental in forming the Simpson Rural Fire District. At the time of his death, Marvin was the president of ZCBJ Lodge #203 Glasco, KS, of which he was a 60 year member. He also was State Treasurer of the Lodge from 1946-1984; past State President, financial secretary for many years; as well as holding many other offices. He also was a delegate to many National ZCBJ-WFLA Conventions and served on several of the convention committees. He took great pride in the Lodge and his heritage. Marvin had a great love for music, playing in his Bohemian band from the time he was in high school until his death. Although he played many instruments in his early life, he had a great passion for the accordion. His music could be heard at dances, fairs and other activities all over the state of KS. Local residents of nursing homes and the Long Term Care Unit at the Mitchell County Hospital enjoyed hearing Marvin play his accordion. His music will also be missed by the younger generation at the holiday dances. Marvin was currently serving on the Bohemian National Cemetery Board and was a lifelong farmer/stockman who enjoyed raising cattle, gardening and spending time with his family. Marvin was united in marriage to Marjorie June Boucek on November 1, 1940. They made their home west of Ada, KS, until they moved to a farm south of Simpson, KS, in 1941. To this union, five children were born. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie of the home; two sons and their wives, Marvin Dean and Belva of Branson, MO, and Richard and Donna of Glasco; two daughters and their husbands, Marilyn and Gene Engel of Lena, IL, and Betty and Roger Miller of Beloit; a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Prochaska of Beloit; 10 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many friends.
